The Right Direction – St. Landry Parish

Let me point you in the right direction; Google Maps indicates “take Exit 11 on I-49.” Here you will find the Annual Exit 11 Yard Sale, a fun and popular event hosted by the Sunset Merchant’s Alliance and the Grand Coteau Cultural Foundation on Saturday, September 15. Whether you are a serious collector or casual browser, this is the perfect setting for a memorable shopping extravaganza along Highway 93 in Grand Coteau and Highway 182 in Sunset.

Located in St. Landry Parish, the communities of Sunset and Grand Coteau have a quintessential charm like no other. Known for their talented local artisans who sell hand-crafted works in various boutiques, visitors will find a wide array of irresistible treasures at these small, yet remarkable Southwest Louisiana towns. In Sunset, picture a string of bargain-filled flea markets and quaint antique stores along Napoleon Avenue, where vendors set up shop on the front lawns to showcase their wares. And Grand Coteau is just as delightful. Celebrated for its rich history and home to some of the most beautiful and deep-rooted Catholic churches in Louisiana, Grand Coteau offers the same unique shopping experience where picturesque views and undeniable charm are just the icing on the cake. The sale begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday and ends at 4 p.m. that afternoon. Mark your calendars and set your alarms now. Word has it, the early bird gets the worm!

What are the top items that shoppers can expect? One of a kind crafts, local art, antique furniture, jewelry and vintage items just to name a few. Plus, many area stores join in the spirit of the event and feature special sales and one-day discounts to commemorate the occasion. And if you want in on the selling action, residents and visitors are invited to set up tables and peddle their items as well.

If you fall in love with St. Landry Parish, and we know you will, stick around for the Fall Music and Market Series which kicks off September 28 in historic Opelousas. You can enjoy live local music in a lovely outdoor setting every Friday evening beginning September 28 through October 26, from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. This awesome music series has been jamming for 12 years, and their 2018 fall line-up will not disappoint. And while you’re there, don’t forget to visit the local farmers’ tables who offer a homegrown vegetable to audiences at each show.
